Race Fan at Heart

I'm a fairly open person and don't have too many unknown facts about myself.  However, if there is one thing people may not know, it's that I am a race fan at heart.  I grew up in a household that cheered heavily for the Colts, the Pacers...and the Andretti's.  I have followed the drivers over the years and even become a Nascar fan, as well.  My co workers consider me the racing tour guide when we attend banking events at the track during the month of May.

My brother went to his Indy 500 race at the age of seven and the only one he missed (which as not his choice) was for his own college graduation. To this day, he says "Who in the world schedules a college graduation on race day?"  I was fortunate enough to be allowed in the father/son ritual in the early 90's...I believe 1992 was my first race. However, at the age of 12, I didn't have much appreciation for the event.  However, 10 years later, I found it a lot of fun. For anyone who has never been, it's a great event. Yes, the race itself does get a little long, but the whole atmosphere of the event is like no other sporting event I've been to.   There is no describing the first time 33 cars come by you at 220mph!

Nick joined the occasion for a couple years after we got together. However, after Ali came into our world, he opted for dad duty. So, our annual tradition is for dad, TJ, and myself to hit the track. Members of my dad's family have joined the mix over the years, so it really is a family affair.  This years race was amazing. There were a couple other racers I would have liked to come away with the win, but it really was one of the greatest races on record.

The field of drivers warming up for the start!

TJ and Dad doing their annual tour of the Chevy showcase.  Dad was trying to describe the engine of corvettes to me today...and he might as well have been speaking in German.  I just smiled and acted like I knew what he was talking about. :)
