As I sit down to reflect over the last week, I am filled with mixed emotions. I had a wonderful holiday weekend with my family. It was very low key and not filled with a lot of excitement...which is sometimes the perfect scenario. On the flip side, we said goodbye to my precious Grandmother (Mom's mom) at the age of 84. My Grandma was a very special lady and I will treasure the memories I have with her and my Grandpa. As hard as saying goodbye can be, I am blessed with a peace that assures me she is right where she wants to be. Every since my Grandpa died six years ago, Grandma has never been the same. Deep down, we all knew she missed the love of her life. What an amazing sight that reunion must of been. All though she suffered many things over the past several years, we are all thankful that she got to meet her five great grandchildren. I've never seen someone's face light up the way hers did when they walked into a room.
Ali and Great Grandma-June 2011
Yesterday would have been my Grandpa Sponsel's 87th birthday so some of us met at his gravesite. We wrote messages on cards and attached them to balloons. The Sponsel clan is all about family and celebrating the legacy my grandparents have built. I believe the count on the Sponsels is over 75 people and we are all loud (in volume and personality) so it always is great to take moments and celebrate with each other.
I am so extremely blessed to have had all four of my grandparents well into my adult years. I cherish the memories and life lessons I can take from each one of them. Family is a great thing! It may not always be perfect, but it builds us into the people we are. I'm thankful mine has been filled with lots of love!
