Tales of Ali Hopkins

As I have mentioned in previous posts, one of my goals with this blog is to capture the many memories of our children's lives. I'm sure there will be posts with growth stats, birthday highlights, school and sport accomplishments (pending they don't get the Leslie Hopkins athletic genes) and holiday memories.  One of the things I didn't anticipate as a mom, was capturing those great stories that take place in the ordinary course of our day to day lives.  A lot of those are those moments when I'm trying to discipline my children and they do or say something hilarious.  We all know those moments...we turn our heads and try to contain the laughter or smiles because we want them to know "we mean business."

Ali had one of those moments last winter and I was reminded of it at work and realized I really needed to document it.  We were leaving gymnastics.  I had Brock with me, which makes things a little more stressful, but usually not a big issue.  Ali was being somewhat unruly as I'm trying to get them in the car.  My patience was running short and I was really getting upset and I must of raised my voice in hopes she would obey what I needed her to do.  She did start to obey, but her commentary included pointing her finger at me with a serious look and saying "you need to watch your temper!"

Nick's brother, Jeff, was able to capture another classic Ali moment a couple weekends ago. Ali is well versed in most movies involving a Disney Princess. For those of you with daughters,  I'm sure you are familiar with Tangled, which came out last fall.  Ali was instantly addicted.  We discovered she knows a lot of the movie by heart. I swear we are not tv addicts, but it's been Ali's choice of movie lately.  We let Ali watch 20-30 minutes of a show or movie sometimes after bath time.  The funny thing is, if she chooses a movie, she can't just start where she left off the day before. She has to start from the beginning.  So, the she has the first 30 minute of Tangled down!  There is a scene towards the beginning where Flynn Ryder (the main male character) is trying to charm Rapunzel.  He is tied up in her hair (wow this sounds odd if you have never see the movie) and he looks at her and says "You know, I didn't want to have to do this, but you leave me know choice...here comes the smolder."  He then lowers is head and pops it back up with a very flirtatious look.  Ali likes to imitate the smolder and she often quotes that line to me.  Check out Ali's smolder...and yes, that is an Aurora/Sleeping Beauty dress and crown.  The Princess Party never stops!
